Walter was born in Pickens County. He was the son of the late Paul and Pearl Haynes and was the oldest of their nine children.
Always sacrificing to provide for his family, he often worked multiple jobs at the same time.
Much of his more than 50-year working career was with Sealtest Dairy Distributors and he ultimately retired from Burgess Transportation.
Walter was a member of Berea First Baptist Church. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He leaves a legacy of how to live a life of faith through his example of freely giving his unconditional love in service to God, his family and everyone he met.
Walter is survived by the love of his life and wife of over 68 years, Bernice. He was a devoted father to his three children, Jim (Stephanie), Linda, and Lee; grandfather to Kelsey (Devan) and John (Molly); great grandfather to Rilynn and Jameson. He is also survived by his youngest brother Randall (Dawn).
