Ruth Burgess Morris

Ruth was an accomplished seamstress, loved to travel, and until her mid fifties, played softball. She loved to sing anywhere anytime. She was a practicing nurse for 32 years and a member of Oolenoy Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, WMU director, music director and was a member of the choir; her church family was dear to her heart.

Ruth loved her family passionately, but there was one she loved most, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As dementia robbed her of so many memories, her faith never wavered. When speech became difficult she still said "The Lord has been so good to me". Her niece Diane said "What a loss for anyone who was blessed enough to have known the selfless, sweet tempered and loving spirit of my dear aunt Ruth.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Deborah Jane Gilcrease (Steve); and her son Timothy Roland Morris (Cindy); her sister Daisy Boggs; her grandchildren T.R. Morris (Jessica), Rebecca Robinson (Michael), Catherine Kalinovich (Jarrad), Elizabeth Hitt, her great grandchildren Jeremy Cassell (Catherine), Adriana Cassell, Angelica Grace Morris, Audrey Jane Hitt, Karsyn Snow Kalinovich, Kase George Kalinovich and her great great grandson Jameson Douglas Cassell. Ruth was blessed with too many nieces and nephews to count and she loved them all dearly.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Troy Morris; her parents Purn and Coreen Burgess; her siblings Maxine, Alvin, Cecil, John, Richard, Jack, Ruby, and Dell.

A visitation for Ruth will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at Dillard Funerals and Cremation, 2402 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, SC 29671. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel. Ruth will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to Oolenoy Baptist Church, 201 Miracle Hill Road , Pickens, South Carolina 29671.
