Born on May 8, 1945, in Dallas, NC, he was the son of the late Roy Dillard Spivey, Sr. and Carrie Byers Spivey. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Williams Spivey; two daughters, Melanie Collins (Michael) of Coos Bay, OR and Carrie Bassett (Barry) of Simpsonville, SC. Four Grandchildren, Nancy Blythe Dixon of Murfreesboro, TN, Lane Broadwell of Simpsonville, SC, Roy Broadwell of Anderson, SC and Hoyt Broadwell of Simpsonville, SC. Three Sisters, Jeannette Quick and Frances Rhyne of Dallas, NC, and Lou Carter of Gastonia, NC; one sister-in-law, Shelly Williams Wagner (Jay) of Charlotte, NC.
Roy was a devout Christian. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1968-1986. He was an alcohol, drug abuse counselor, helping many achieve sobriety. In 2016 he attended Operation Restored Warrior, a program to help veterans overcome PTSD. He became a facilitator and helped other veterans find Jesus and hope. He earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam, where he served from 1967-1968. Roy enjoyed NASCAR and Gamecock Football. For his 60th birthday, he enjoyed driving at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the Richard Petty driving experience. He said it was the best birthday ever!
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, at East Pickens Baptist Church, with Reverend Jamie Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends prior from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church.
