Mr. Wood was born in Greenville, SC on December 7, 1951 to the late Charles Lewis and Irene Ellenburg Wood. Growing up in Easley, football was a large part of his life, and he was on the Easley High School 1967 Championship Football Team. He would later be inducted into the Easley hall of fame for his athletic abilities in 1995. Upon graduation, he continued his love for the game and became a little league coach for Easley. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, “Papa's Taxi” (as he was known to his family) loved spending his free time cherishing memories with his family and cheering on his favorite teams: the Atlanta Braves, Easley Greenwave, and the Clemson Tigers. Mr. Wood was a member of Potters Clay Fellowship where he attended when he was able.
In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Wood is survived by his three children: Stephani Kaye Wood Talley of Easley, Lisa Dell Leslie (Dwayne) of Pickens, and Katie Wood Moore (Wayne) of Easley; his eight grandchildren: Tessa (Brian), Jonah (Cameron), Noah (Olivia), Abigail (Alex), Samantha (Bonnie), Brooklyn, Baylee, and Dakota; three great-grandchildren: Barrett, Georgia Mae, and Arabella; and three siblings: Randall Wood (Dianne), Kaye Wood Bowick (Bill), and Lane Wood (Donna). Mr. Wood is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
