Cricket Hughes Martha Ann “Cricket” Hughes, 77, beloved wife of William Leander “Bill” Hughes passed from this life on Monday, May 26, 2014 at her home in Central. Cricket was born in Six Mile, a daughter of the late Ben Tilman and Grace Barrett Hendricks. Cricket was the consummate military wife along with Bill during his time in the U. S. Air Force. They traveled all over Europe and the U. S. including Hawaii and Cricket was always helping plan parties and other functions for the officers’ wives club wherever they were stationed. She formerly worked for Edwards Junior High School as study hall supervisor. Later she worked with Bill in his service to the Oconee County Builders Association where she was in charge of hospitality. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bill of the home her son, Brian Hughes (Ellen) of Atlanta, GA and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Caley Hughes of Six Mile. Also surviving are granddaughters, Gretchen Hughes and Lydia Hughes and a sister, Connie Elizabeth Alexander (Larry) of Six Mile. In addition to her parents, Cricket was preceded in death by a son, Bruce W. Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with The Reverend Ike Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The National Alzheimer’s Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 2962. The family is at the home.
