Born on August 10, 1939, in Toccoa, GA, he was the son of the late Enary and Viola Funk Sisk. Best known for his love, generosity and prayer life, Rev. John dedicated his entire life to serving his community through the Lord. Called to the ministry in 1963, Rev. John attended Holmes Theological Seminary and became ordained on May 18, 1967, with the Assemblies of God. He built and pastored Open Bible Assembly of God of Taylors and First Assembly of God in Easley. He served as Chaplain for the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department, and the Greenville Mental Health Department’s Suicide Prevention call line. Rev. John was a member of the SC District Assembly of God Missions Committee for 15 years and SC District Presbytery Board for 10 years. He was also active as a youth representative of the Upstate for 10 years. Rev. John was a huge supporter of missions, both domestic and foreign. Post retirement, he attended First Assembly of God in Greenville for 17 years. In his final year, he faithfully attended Easley Church of God. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Anne Wilson Sisk; five children, Steven D. Sisk (Tammy) of Liberty, Reverend Simeon John Sisk (Reverend Joy) of the Netherlands, Reverend Sandra D. Phillips of Ohio, Susan Annette Vlahos (Reverend Nick) of Easley and Scott D. Sisk of Easley; one brother, Charles Edward Sisk (Mary) of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Ollie Baxter of Oklahoma City and Elizabeth Tompkins of Easley; one sister-in-law, Jo Sisk of Easley; 10 grandchildren, Amber (Ken), Brian (Hailey), Stephanie, Sarah, Remington, Ethan, Max, Esther (Charlie), Jonathan (Sabrina), and Becca (Matt) and 3 great-grandchildren, Peyton, Case, and Averie.
Reverend John was also predeceased by one brother, Enary Sisk, Jr., and two sisters, Geneva Phillips and Louise Knecht.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home. A celebration of Reverend John’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Easley Church of God with the Reverend Steve Knight, Reverend Ken Owen and Reverend S. John Sisk officiating. A committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a Teen Challenge of South Carolina Missions offering will be received during the celebration service at Easley Church of God.
