Born in Pickens, SC he was the son of John Patton and Cornelia G. Patton and lived his entire life in Pickens before recently relocating near his son in Lexington, SC. He was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens and loved growing his garden, keeping an immaculate yard and working in his shop where he built many family furniture pieces over the years. After serving in the US Army and a stint in manufacturing, Joe spent many years with Duke Power and the school district of Pickens County. He was most happy when he acted on his passion and started a construction company with his brother-in-law, B.F. Gilstrap. Many beautiful homes and buildings dot the upstate as a result of their craftsmanship and quality construction.
Survivors include Sue Patton, his beloved wife of 63 years; a son, John Patton of Lexington, SC and his wife Sharon, whom Joe loved like a daughter, and a granddaughter, Brooke Patton of Greenville, SC, who is one of the greatest joys of Joe’s life.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Oakleaf Village Assisted Living and Tidewater Hospice of Lexington, SC for their loving care.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens, SC, with the Reverend H.C. Couch officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church Missions Fund at 421 Sangamo Rd., Pickens, SC 29671.
