Seneca – Joan Ray Owens, 75, wife of James Franklin “Jimmy” Owens passed from this life on Thursday January 7, 2021.
Joan was born in Greensboro, NC, daughter of the late William Samuel and Nancy Schoolfield Ray. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed being a homemaker and living on the lake. She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley and loved singing in the church choir. Joan had attended the UNC Greensboro.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Jimmy Owens, a son Donald Lee Johnson, Jr. (Marci) of Randleman, NC, a daughter Jennifer Leigh Johnson of Liberty, and step-daughter Cynthia Derrick (Mark) of Gathersburg, MD. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Courtney Leigh Johnson, Christopher Roberts, Richard Roberts, Jonnathan Lee Johnson, Jordan Elizabeth Derrick, Donald Lee Johnson, III, Jennileigh Taylor Phillips and Ashley Gene Derrick. Joan is also survived by a brother Jerry Ronald Ray of Summerfield, NC.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by brothers Glenn Ray and William Samuel “Bill” Ray, Jr.
A memorial service will be held graveside Saturday March 27 at 3 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley with The Reverend Jeff Childress officiating. Due to the current Covid crisis, it is requested that masks be worn and social distancing be practiced.
