She was a wonderful woman, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her beauty radiated from the inside out. She never met a stranger and treated everyone with love, kindness and compassion. She retired from the post office in Greenville after many years of service, both at the main post office and the Augusta Road branch. She was a fighter, a survivor and “tough ole bird”, as she would often say. She beat breast cancer and later Large B cell Lymphoma. She was just starting her battle again with Lymphoma when she won her final eternal victory over it!
She loved to dance and travel, she loved the beach and the mountains. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Columbia, SC. Most of all, she loved her family dearly. She often said she loved to make people laugh, make them feel better and make their day brighter. She loved animals and children. She would often stop people as they walked by with their children, comment on how cute they were and if a son was with her, would always point over to them and say “that’s my little boy. He used to be your size.” She never hesitated to crack a joke, make a funny face or do a little dance of some kind to make you smile. She was not afraid to be herself no matter where she was or who she was with. She didn’t care how old or young you were, what color your skin was or whether you were rich or poor, she treated you the same. However, she often joked she was looking for a good look-in rich man. She loved God and was strong in her faith. She always said, “God was in control” and relied on him to get her through. The “tough ole bird” finally flew home on her new pair of wings.
