Mr. Atkins was born in Pickens, SC on March 25, 1945 to the late Luther Durant and Carrie Louise Porter Atkins. He retired from Easley Combined Utilities as a Water Treatment Superintendent and in his free time he enjoyed bluegrass music, pottery making, and working in his vegetable garden. Mr. Atkins was a man who had a servant's heart, and he enjoyed most of all being able to help others. He was a lifetime member of the Water Environment Association of South Carolina, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.
Mr. Atkins is survived by two children: Joey Atkins of Pickens and Janet Ivey (Rev. Mike) of Cramerton, NC; his two grandchildren: Kaitlyn Ivey and Caleb Ivey; and six siblings: Dola Mae Chappell of Easley, Linda Masters of Pickens, Martha Hawkins (Billy) of Easley, Janice Atkins of Pickens, Rachel Durham (Stanley) of Pickens, and Dan Atkins (Judy) of Marietta. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his loving wife and his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a son: Jamie Atkins; and a brother; Phillip Atkins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 6, 2023 in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Monday, prior to the service, at Dillard Funeral Home.
The family is at their respective homes.
