Mr. Cox was born in Honea Path, SC on December 15, 1941 to the late Alec and Mary Brock Cox. He retired as principal of Pickens Elementary School before becoming an adjunct professor at North Greenville University in the education department. Mr. Cox was known for his faith, his love for his family, and love of golf. He was a member of Easley First Baptist Church, and volunteered for the United Christian Ministries.
In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Mr. Cox is survived by his two children: Lori Cox Dupree (Michael) of Lexington, SC and Kevin Cox (Leslie) of Piedmont, SC; a granddaughter: Caroline Dupree of Lexington, SC; a brother: James Joseph Cox of Villa Rica, GA; a sister-in-law: Helen Cox of Walhalla, SC; a brother-in-law: Milton Hawkins (Bobbie) of Columbia, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by three siblings: Carlton Cox, Elmer Cox, and Gatha Cox Broome.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that masks be worn to attend the service and social distancing will be observed in the cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, following the graveside service, at the cemetery.
