Newberry, SC – Mrs. Dorothy Mae O’Shields Freeman, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 2, 2021. Mrs. Freeman was born in Pickens County, South Carolina and was the daughter of the late B.D. O’Shields and Eula Mae Chastain O’Shields and loving wife of 62 years to Harold Freeman.
Surviving in addition to her husband include a daughter Donna Faye Cantrell of Newberry, South Carolina; two granddaughters Kelly Long (William) and Mandy Barriger both from Newberry, South Carolina. Surviving are the two most loving and precious great grandchildren that Mrs. Freeman adored Hunter and Faith Long. Also surviving are brothers Alvin, Artis (Judy) and Wayne O’Shields and sisters Alice Maw and Agnes Girardeau.
Mrs. Freeman was predeceased by a sister Betty Davis.
Mrs. Freeman was a people person. She loved people and never met a stranger. She was happily married to her young love Harold for 62 tremendous years. She loved her family and adored her two grandchildren. Her working career was as a clerk in retail sales but she was known for family. She was an awesome cook and her family will be missing her squash casseroles and banana puddings. She loved and had a gift for gardening. Most of all, it was her love of people and family that brought joy to her life.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy Pickens, South Carolina 29671.
The family asks anyone attending the service to please wear a mask.
