Charles Shawn Garrett

Shawn was a decorated veteran who served in the United States Navy for 11 years.

Shawn was born on August 25, 1958, in Evanston Wyoming, then shortly moved to Farmers Branch Texas where he grew up. His parents, Joe and Marie Garrett, welcomed three more boys Steven Joe, John Patrick (Ramona), and Thomas Elroy (Regina). Shawn is preceded by his father Joe Garrett who passed in February 1996.

When Shawn was just 18, he decided he wanted to join the United States Navy to see the world. He did just that and was stationed in Charleston SC, San Diego CA, and even Guam. Shawn would go on to serve 11 years in total and retire from the Navy for medical reasons. Once retired he moved back to Farmers Branch TX.

While serving in the Navy, Shawn met and fell for Carolyn Miller, whom he soon married in September 1982 in Pickens County, SC. Carolyn had a son, Jamie Walden (Melissa), from Dacusville, SC. Once he retired from the Navy, Shawn and Carolyn moved back to Farmers Branch, TX to be with his family. After moving to Farmers Branch, Shawn was a jack of all trades due to his military service working many successful jobs. Shawn and Carolyn moved back to Dacusville, SC in 1998 to be with Carolyn's family. When Shawn wasn’t working, he had a huge passion for spending time with family especially his grandson, Jackson Miller Walden, and gaming. Every time someone thanked Shawn for his service (he always wore his Navy hat), he was quick to say, “Thank you for the vacation!” His love of the Navy and his patriotism for his country were unmatched.

The family requests that flowers be sent to 421 Little Pond Road Easley, SC 29640. There will be a memorial service announced at a later date.
