He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Sexton of the home; sons Stephen Sexton of Central, SC, Timothy Sexton of Greensboro, NC, and Reverend Joel Sexton (Cindy) of Taylors, SC; sister Eugenia Webster of Clinton, TN; grandchildren Kathleen Moore (Chad) of Clinton, SC and Joseph Carl Sexton of Taylors, SC.
Born February 2, 1930, in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Reverend C.J. and Obera Sexton. He was preceded in death by siblings Charles Sexton, Doris Bolt, Mildred Reece and Elizabeth Crumpton.
He served as pastor and Interim pastor for several churches, as well as several administrative positions within Spirit Life Ministries of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was licensed and ordained minister for more than 65 years. He retired in 1989 from the Greenville County School system after 28 years of service as a teacher and guidance counselor.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea as an instructor and in the Ordinance Corp. He received a total of 5 medals including 2 Bronze Service Medals.
Receiving of friends will be held on Sunday February 10, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home.
An intimate family funeral service will be held on Monday February 11, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Officiating the services will be Reverend Ray Boggs and Reverend Joel Sexton.
The family offers their sincerest thanks to the staff at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Care facility as well as the staff of Patriot Hospice for their outstanding care.
