William David Thompson Jr., more commonly known to friends and family as Bill, Passed away on March 1, 2022 at the age of 92. Bill was born February 17 1930 to William David and Willie B. (Shipp) Thompson. Bill grew up in El Paso, TX and attended area schools where he played on the high school football team. He is predeceased by his son, William Gordon Thompson; father, William David Thompson and mother, Willie B. Thompson.
After graduation in 1948, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps, but deferred to be eligible to become an officer. Bill received his bachelor’s degree in business, before returning to the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant.
He married the love of his life, Mrs. Ona Mae (Green) Thompson in 1953, had their oldest son Mark Thompson in 1956 and then second son William Gordon Thompson in 1959 while living in El Paso. The family later moved to Phoenix, AZ where Bill began his 29 year long career as an engineer at Mountain Bell until retiring in 1990.
After retirement, Bill enjoyed being on bowling leagues and also joined the Arizona Sprint Car Association as a co-owner of several cars over a 10 year period.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ona Mae Thompson; son, Mark Thompson, and Rose the dog.
Visitation will be held a 12:30 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85027, Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM, at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, with Committal Services to follow at 2:30 PM at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary.
