William "Bill" G. Hack, 80, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Bill was born on June 11, 1943, in New York City, New York to the late Dorothy A. (Davis) and Daniel H. Hack. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia "Pat" R. (Dugdale) Hack; and sisters, Carol Ann Hack and Barbara L. (Hack) Wey.
Bill graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1961. In 1962, he joined the Navy serving on the USS Pocono until 1964. Bill married the love of his life, Pat, on January 9, 1965, in Riverton, New Jersey.
Prior to his service in the Navy, Bill worked as a butcher alongside his father and grandfather in the family business known as Manhattan Pork & Provision Co. Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill returned to help his father, Daniel, run the growing chain in the boroughs of New York City. In the late 1970s as the demand for specialty stores dwindled, MP&P closed their doors.
Bill then began a career in sales with his cousins at Delmarva Petroleum and the family moved to the Eastern shore of Maryland. This began a lengthy career in the oil business in which Bill worked for both Pennzoil and Castrol distributors until becoming a Regional Sales Manager in the Southeast for BP/Castrol corporate. This position required the family to relocate to Georgia until eventually returning to New Jersey as Bill had become the National Account Sales Manager.
Before retiring, Bill and Pat worked together as a successful real estate sales team for Weichert Realtors in Bridgewater, New Jersey. In 2001, they settled in their beloved family bungalow in Mastic Beach, New York. After riding out many winters, as well as a home rebuild after Hurricane Sandy, they relocated to Leesburg, Florida in 2021.
Bill is survived by his son, Robert (Lisa) Hack of Mt. Dora, FL; daughters, Barbara (Jeff) Scanlon of Phoenix, AZ, and Jennifer (Mike) Yanovitch of Belle Mead, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kaden W. Hack of South Carolina; Michael, Jessica, and John Yanovitch of New Jersey; Thomas (Bobbi) Berk and Alexander (Danielle) Berk of Arizona; and three great-grandchildren, Jade, Lexi, and Zakk of Arizona.
At his request, Bill will be cremated with a memorial to be held at a later date.
