Owen and Jessie (Houck) Clevenger. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1941 and went on to marry the love of his life, Doris Louise Dickinson on September 13,1942 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Moline Illinois. They had three children.
Wayne was a Major in the United States Air Force and in the Reserve Air Force. He actively served from November 1941 to October 1945 and remained in the Reserves as an officer until his retirement in 2001. Wayne was the owner of Ideal Cycle Supply in Moline, IL before entering the service and after WWII, changed the name to Midwest Cycle Supply, relocating to Rock Island, IL. Wayne operated the business from March, 1946 to November, 2001.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents Nolie “Owen” and Jessie (Houck) Clevenger, in 1981 and 1982 respectively, his sister Delores (Clevenger) Long in 2011, his wife Doris Louise (Dickinson) Clevenger in 2005, and a stillborn son, William Keith Clevenger in 1949.
He is survived by his son Dennis (Karen) Clevenger of Florence, AZ and daughter Debra (Dr. James) Schaefer of Phoenix, AZ.
Wayne leaves seven grandchildren: Michelle (Michael) Trapani, Elmhurst, IL; David Clevenger, Lakeville, MN; Douglas (Jenine) Clevenger, Brookfield, IL; Erin (Chuck) Chisholm, Glendale, AZ; Jamie (Rob) Otis,
Surprise, AZ; Kristin (Scott) Reigelsperger, Surprise, AZ and Megan Schaefer, Scottsdale, AZ.
Wayne also leaves fourteen great- grandchildren: Emma and Nicholas Trapani, Alec (Melissa) Abkemeier, Lauren Clevenger, Charles Clevenger, Jessica, Brandon and Amber Chisholm, Travis, Derek and Austin Wipprecht, Taylor and Tyler Reigelsperger, and Ava Schaefer, as well as great-great grandson Declan Abkemeier.
A short family visitation was held on Sunday, July 19, 2020 with burial to be performed in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at a later date.
