Chicago, Illinois. After completing his education there, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving from 1952-1955 as a Morse code radio operator to ships on the Great Lakes. While stationed. In Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, he met and married Carol Arbic. Most of their 68 plus years were spent in Phoenix, Arizona working and raising their 2 children Mike and Dawn. Their mountain cabin in Prescott was his “happy place” where he loved to enjoy the view from the deck with a cup of coffee.
Wally was initially employed by the Arizona State Real Estate Dept. and after that operated his own independent insurance agency until retiring 20 years ago.
He loved all sports, especially the AZ Diamondbacks and the University of Arizona. As a young guy he enjoyed playing both baseball and basketball. He proudly watched his son also excel at sports from little league through a National Collegiate Baseball Championship and pro baseball.
Additionally, and with much pride and joy he saw his sweet little girl grow into a talented and loving wife and mother. He was a devoted and wonderful husband to Carol.
Wally's loving, considerate, and thoughtful persona, always mixed with a good dose of humor, is his legacy.
Survivors include wife, Carol, son, Michael (Jane), daughter Dawn Brenner (John), grandchildren Jennifer Morgan, Kelly Justice, Scott Brenner, Jillian Brenner and Connor Flinn and great-grandchildren Madelyn and Annalise Morgan, and Jace and Linley Brenner.
Wally lived his blessed life happily enjoying family and many friends. He will be greatly missed! In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beatitudes Foundation, 1620 W Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
