Phoenix – “Vicky” Vernie Vay Groenewold, 82, passed away October 21, 2018. Vicky was born on January 2, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Goude and Nona Love Bass. She grew up in Oklahoma City and married her high school sweetheart, Van Dick Groenewold, at age 19.
After living in various states they settled in Phoenix, AZ in 1972. She held various secretarial positions, but her favorite job was the receptionist for the Secretary of State. She was very involved at North Phoenix Baptist Church. She loved cruises, the Gaithers, all gospel quartets, her grandchildren and anything sparkly. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and “Nana”. She will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Duane, her twin brother Vernon, and her only son Scott. She is survived by her husband Van Dick of 63 years, daughters Sheree (Buddy) Campbell and Vickie (Eric) Cook, and 5 grandchildren (Tyler, Preston, Davis, Kyle & Katie).
Her Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at North Bible Church located at 15678 North Greenway Hayden Loop, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. A reception will immediately follow.
