Tex McCormick of Phoenix, Arizona. passed away on June 19, 2023. at the age of 84. He was born on June 29, 1938, in Columbus, Georgia where he grew up. He resided in Jacksonville, NC, for much of his adult life until eight years ago when he moved to Phoenix, AZ.
Tex received much of his vocational training in the Marine Corps. He pursued many certifications in his field of mechanics and was an instructor to many marines.
He served in the United States Marine Corps as an auto mechanic and served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the USMC in 1976 and subsequently retired as a Civil Service Employee after 24 years of service.
He was actively involved in church serving in many roles: deacon, usher, greeter, working with the Royal Rangers boys’ group, and driving the church bus for trips to youth functions and summer camp. He loved making his famous award-winning chili and would grill for large crowds at home or church. He enjoyed driving a commercial tour bus to various destinations such as Branson, Missouri. He was always willing to help repair a disabled vehicle or teach anyone to drive a stick shift automobile. He enjoyed many trips to amusement parks, and he loved cruising abroad. He enjoyed watching Western movies, being with family, and dining out. Just last month he traveled to Mexico on a Disney Cruise with family. In the past year or two, with his dementia progressing, he would still enjoy a rousing game of checkers at Cracker Barrel or the adult day care center and never lost a game! He insisted on buying extra biscuits at McDonald’s and handing them out to the many homeless people he passed on the way to the care center. He was a HUGE giver and loved helping anyone in need. He was always faithful to his church and was in attendance the day before he passed.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Angus McCormick and Ruth Adelia Wilson and siblings: JD, James, Jerry, John Thomas (JT) and Nancy Jane.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McCormick of 64 years. His Brother, Rex McCormick. His children, Kenneth McCormick, Tammy McCormick-Greene, Connie Watkins, and Jonathan Simerson. His Grandchildren, Kenneth Bowman, Daniel Tucker, Joseph McCormick, Andrew Meyer, Rebecca Buckingham, Zachary Meyer, Gabriel Meyer, and Brie Meyer. His Great-grandchildren: Chris Bowman, Hannah Bowman, Malachi Meyer, Lillian Meyer, Zechariah Meyer, and Eli Meyer
