Sue Jean Song of Phoenix, AZ, entered heaven on July 16, 2016 at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 29, 1928, in Canton, China to Heung Tsun Tang (father) and Jungwah S. Tang (mother). She immigrated to Phoenix in 1937, attended school in the Phoenix Elementary School District and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1947. From a young age, Sue helped to run her parents’ grocery store, Hyde Park Market, at the corner of 27th Avenue and Adams Street. The small “Mom and Pop” store was a favorite among the neighborhood because Sue and her mother “Mary” were known for their kindness and generosity to all. Many of their customers would comment that they were only able to feed their families because of the kindness and charity extended by Sue and her mother. While in high school, Sue was known for her active involvement in student government, numerous clubs, and many activities. Sue married Joe Henry Song on September 3, 1950 and celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage. She was a charter member of the First Chinese Baptist Church and served in the Nursery ministry for over 60 years. During this time she cared for multiple generations of families. Sue was also a long time member of the GFWC Desert Jade Women’s Club of Arizona. Sue was an avid sports enthusiast and fan of Phoenix Suns Basketball, Arizona Diamondbacks Baseball, and ASU football. While raising her five daughters, Sue continued to work by her husband’s side in the family businesses including a grocery store, insurance agency, real estate brokerage, accountancy practice, and immigration business. Sue was known for her love of children, generous spirit, and kindheartedness. A very humble person, she always thought of others before herself. Sue valued her many friends and never hesitated to make time for them, but nothing gave her more joy than to spend time with her loving family. Sue is survived by her daughters Karen Loui (Jim), Roxanne Ong (Rick), Candace Ong (Greg-deceased), Laureen Ng (Jonathan), Marcelle Ong (Dwayne), grandchildren Stuart Loui, Matthew Loui, Jocelyn Ong Phok (Emmitt), Bradley Ong, Jordan Ng, Jacob Ng, Hayden Ong, Faith Ong and great grandchildren Olivia Phok and Mason Phok. She is also survived by her brother, Eugene Tang (Helen). Sue is preceded in death by her husband Joe Henry Song. Visitation will be on Friday, July 22 at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W.
