Susan attended Lowell Elementary, Phoenix Union High, and received a degree in elementary education from Arizona State University. She taught school for 39 years in the Phoenix Elementary School District, including stints at Jackson and Emerson Schools.
Susan was married to Jerry Hom, and during the course of their 64 years together they became pillars in the community. She was a source of strength in caring for her immediate and extended family, providing health care and emotional support to those who needed it. She was active in the local Chinese community and spent many years volunteering as an auxiliary of the Yee Fung Toy and Ong Ko Met societies, using her culinary skills to direct the kitchen when events were being hosted.
Susan was a great cook and a better baker. Many have tried but failed to duplicate her made- from- scratch dinner rolls. During her retirement years she could be tracked to the local casino where she is famous for her bragging rights for having the “golden touch”.
Susan is survived by her husband Jerry, brothers Roy (Jenny) Tang and Jim Tang, nieces and nephews Mon, Jim, John, Leland, Gerry, Brian, Rosalind, Toni, Sandra, Kevin, Stacey, Michael, Tiffany, and numerous great and grand nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Eugene Huie, Edward Tang, Lee Tang, Don Tang, sisters Ruth Tang and Jane Loy, and nieces Stephanie Loy and Brenda Hall.
