Shirley Domzalski, lifetime Phoenix resident and APS retiree, passed away suddenly at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center on July 26th, 2021. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Albert and Ida Ross, parents Robert and Frances "Pamp" Ross, in-laws Thaddeus and Olga Domzalski, brother John Ross, brother-in-law Chic Domzalski, and her husband Michael Domzalski.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Vince Domzalski (Vicky) and Pat Domzalski (Pam), sister Linda Kidwell (Jimy), brother Chuck Ross (Sherry), sister-in-law Carol Domzalski, grandchildren Matthew, Melissa, Joshua, Dustin, Amanda, and Jacob. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Hunter, Oliver, Tyler, Luna, Aiden, Cheyenne, and Peyton; nieces and nephews Brian, Jeff, Jameson, Daphne, Marci, Aaron, Ryan, and Jessie, many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.
Shirley was formerly active in the Fire Belles, a women's auxiliary to the Phoenix Fire Department. Shirley was president of the Fire Belles in 1966, 1967, and 1971. The Fire Belles assisted families that had been "Burned out of their homes", providing clothing, shelter, and housekeeping items. The Fire Belles also responded to active fires and provided sandwiches, coffee, and encouragement to the working firefighters.
Shirley was also formerly active in the I.A.A.P., The International Association of Administrative Professionals. The I.A.A.P. fostered ongoing training, mentoring, and networking among the Administrative professionals of many diverse companies and organizations. Shirley was president of her I.A.A.P. chapter twice, and won many accolades for her professionalism and hard work.
Shirley was an Executive secretary/ Administrative professional for APS for 12 years, and retired in 1996. She had many lady friends that were also APS employees, and they would meet for meals and conversation. They were known as the "Lunch Bunch."
Shirley loved to travel, and visited Hawaii (with her husband Mike), Canada, Ireland and Scotland with her son Vince and his family. She enjoyed reading, and all her family members especially Pam kept her supplied with books by her favorite authors.
In the past few years, Shirley stayed mostly at home reading and enjoying her favorite television programs, with frequent visits from family and highly anticipated visits to the beauty parlor to get her hair done by her friend Chris. Shirley's dear friend and next door neighbor Mary-Jo, also an I.A.A.P. member would also come visit and lend a hand when needed.
The angelic caregivers at Nightingale Home Care came 5 days a week to help Shirley with appointments, shopping, housekeeping, and meals. Shirley's family would like to express their unending gratitude for the many kindnesses her caregivers showed her. Their care enabled Shirley to remain living comfortably in her home until her passing.
Shirley passed away on Monday, July 26th, 2021 at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center less than 3 hours after injuring her leg in a fall at her home. Shirley's family will be forever grateful for the heroic lifesaving efforts of the Banner Thunderbird medical team, and the Phoenix Fire Department paramedics who responded to Shirley's home. They are all truly skilled, professional and compassionate.
Shirley was always an Angel, and now she has her wings.
