Shirley Ann Ollerton Buck, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter, Janice, by her side, on December 4, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born July 31, 1927, to Zina Jeanette Guthire and Preston Ollerton in Mesa Arizona, joining a family of two brothers and an older sister.
She attended Brigham Young University and Arizona State University, then graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in education. She began her career teaching first and second grade.
Shirley married Frank Irvin Buck on August 18, 1948 in Maricopa, Arizona. It was love at first sight. Together, they shared a great love for the outdoors and took the family on many adventures. Almost every weekend they could be found out on the desert looking for petroglyphs and rock specimens. They also had a love of the mountain country of Colorado, taking many trips above the timberline exploring old mining town, and searching for purple glass bottles.
Frank passed September 12, 1969 and Shirley carried on raising their three children, who were 14, 12, and 9. To support the family, she took a job with Arizona Public Services, from which she later retired.
Shirley was blessed with many talents. She was an excellent seamstress and loved tole painting and ceramics. She was well known for her candy making, putting together plates of all kinds of treats to give to her family and friends.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had an abiding interest in family history work and in temple service. She served in her ward Relief Society presidency, in primary, scouts and the youth program.
She Is survived by her children, Frank Buck (Cindy), Janice (Tony Jonguitud) and Michael Buck, 12 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank; her sibilings, Jim, Paul, Janet, and grandson Dakota.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. December 16, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter- Day Saints chapel, 8710 N. 3rd Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. Friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Graveside services will be at 11:45 a.m. at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W Van Buren Street, Phoenix, AZ.
