Sandra L. Fotinos, age 71, passed away on October 3, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Sandra (Sandy) was born on September 1, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, to Mary and Harold Smith. Sandy moved to Phoenix, Arizona in the 8th grade in February of 1959, with her parents and two brothers. Sandy attended West and Alhambra High Schools and Phoenix College. In 1964, while at Phoenix College, she met Tony Fotinos, and they began dating. They were homecoming king and queen at Phoenix College in 1965. They were then married on July 9, 1966. In her younger years, Sandy worked a variety of retail jobs and gave back to the community volunteering on the Foster Care Review Board, but Sandy's most treasured job was that of mother to her two daughters. Aside from Sandy's deep love of her family, she had many other passions and interests. Sandy was an avid collector of Native American art and jewelry and was very proud of her collection. Her interest in art led her to work at both the Phoenix Art Museum and the Scottsdale Center for the Arts after her daughters were grown. She enjoyed traveling to both Southern and Northern California and New Mexico to visit family and friends. She had a flair for fashion and loved to shop, including carefully selecting just the right gifts for birthdays and holidays. She also had an uncanny ability to remember details about friends and family and was often relied on by both to recount them. While Sandy is no longer with us physically and she will be missed beyond words, her love, beautiful smile, sense of humor, loyalty to family and friends, generosity and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. We find comfort knowing she was greeted into heaven with joy by loved ones who passed before her. Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Harold E. Smith and Mary A. Smith. She is survived by her husband Tony and daughters Mary Ann and Jessica; her brothers Tim (Betsy) Smith and Matt (Mary) Smith; many nieces and nephews; and lots of dear friends. A Visitation and Rosary will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Rosary at 7:00 pm on Sunday October 15, 2017, at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 16, 2017, at S.s. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85017. Interment will follow at Greenwood/Memory Lawn Cemetery. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 or St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 13600, Phoenix, AZ 85002-3600.
