It is with tremendous sorrow the family of Ruth Hernandez Diaz announces she went on to her glory at 82 years of age on Friday February 16, 2024 in Phoenix Arizona.
Miss Ruth was born to Reverend Pedro and Esther Luz (Flores) Hernandez in Abilene Texas. As her father served the Southern Baptist ministry, she lived in several different cities during her youth including Tucson and San Jose, .
Miss Ruth became Mrs. Diaz in 1966 after meeting her future husband, Airman George Diaz, at a church sponsored singles Valentine's Day banquet.
Ruth graduated from Grand Canyon College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 and immediately started her career as an elementary school educator. Later, Ruth would graduate from Arizona State University with her Masters of Arts degree, and complete all of her coursework towards her doctorate.
Ruth was funny, sassy, motivating, compassionate, adventurous, and always strong. Ruth loved to serve the church, dress up, decorate her home for any holiday, garden, admire her plants, meet new people, make hilarious observations, give people nicknames, dance, be silly, and advocate for the disadvantaged.
Much like her father, Ruth would purposely mispronounce words into funnier words. Afterwards, Ruth would laugh at how the person she mispronounced the word to had reacted.
A regional ministry leader, Ruth founded the Iglesia Bautista del Oeste in Avondale Arizona. After retiring from her career as an educator, Ruth founded the Ni Hao Amigos Language Immersion Preschool on the same property.
A master teacher, Ruth applied her experience as a teacher mentoring dozens of student teachers and during her service on both the Isaac and Tolleson Elementary School District governing boards for a combination of 19 years.
Ruth’s survivors include her husband George, her children George Jr and Evangeline (AKA Vangie) (Juan), her grandchildren Adela, George III, Aaron and Benjamin, and her brother Joshua. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, brother Edmundo Omar and her sister Alia Omega.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday March 2, 2024 at the Iglesia Bautista del Oeste located at 19 North Central Avenue, Avondale AZ 85323.
“The God of my rock; in him will I trust: He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, My saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised:
So shall I be saved from mine enemies.” 2 Samuel 22:3-4
