raised in Emporia, VA where he completed high school before he moved to the ‘Big Apple’ and
joined the work force, first in sales at a mens haberdashery, then with the Fuller Brush
company, and ultimately with the US Postal Service where he served for 31 years. Before
joining USPS he met the love of his life, Geraldine Perry. They were married September 19,
1948 and remained married for 74 years, 2 months, and 27 days until his death. To this union
two daughters were born, Deborah and Andrea.
The day of Russell’s passing he was surrounded by his loving wife and family. His wife and
daughter were there to comfort him as he took his last breath.
Russell’s favorite hobby was photography. If you knew him anytime before he turned 80 you
can bet we have a picture of you. He also enjoyed tinkering with his car and repairing things,
especially electronics, and he was good at it. He was a die hard New York team fan; Yankees,
New York Knicks and Giants (in that order).
When Russell retired from the postal service he and Geraldine took a cross country trip to see
where they might retire. They decided on Tucson AZ and moved there in 1982. The joined Faith
Community Church and served there for 29 years before moving to Fountain Hills AZ in 2011.
They joined Scottsdale Bible Church and attended faithfully until his health began to fail. He
never neglected his tithes though.
Russell leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Geraldine, two daughters; Deborah
(James) and Andrea (Tommy), four grandchildren; kwabena, Marcus, Tommy Jr (Shareen), eight
great grandchildren; Clover, Taniash, Keityn, Kayden, Avari, Kenyan, Jelani, and Aiyannah, one
very dear first cousin Betty Mike.
Death takes the body
God takes the soul
Our minds hold the memories
Our hearts keep the love
Our faith lets us know we will meet again
