Ruben M. Hernandez

89, passed from this life to the next on August 12, 2012, in Phoenix, AZ. He went peacefully in his home, comfortable in his bed, with his beloved Chihuahuas. He was born August 21, 1922 in the mining town of Clifton, AZ. Ruben was one of eleven children born to his Yaqui father Marcial Hernandez and his Mexican wife Maria. Ten siblings passed before Ruben, except for his brother Marcial Hernandez Jr., 91. He met the love of his life Stella Garza, in 1949 in Los Angeles, CA. She was born in Phoenix, where they were living when she passed in October 1997. Ruben was a caring father to Patsy, Becky, Anna, Ruben Jr., Lenora, Tom, Alice, and Barbara Jean. Anna and Becky preceded Ruben in death. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Ruben's life passions were his wife Stella, his family, and playing and singing the beloved songs of his ancestral country, Mexico at family gatherings and special events. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a proud patriot and a hard worker who always provided for his family. All Ruben's family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Wednesday, August 22, at 10am at Resthaven Park Mortuary and Cemetery, 4310 E. Southern Ave. in Phoenix.
