Ron died January 9, 2016 at the age of 83. He was born to Leland and Frances Larrabee in Oakland, CA in 1932. Ron had a very active and interesting life. He joined the Army and served as a Medic in Korea, where he experienced the horrors of war. After a few years as a civilian, Ron enlisted in the Air Force, was tested and put in intelligence. He did two tours in Vietnam, was in Puerto Rico during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was sent to Germany when there was a Russian scare. While in service, Ron married and had three sons, John, Mark and David. David followed his dad’s lead, joined and retired from the Air Force. Ron became a grandfather and great-grandfather. His second wife, Harriet, died in 2008. Harriet’s son, Richard Holt and Ron were very close. After retiring from the military, Ron attended ASU, graduating with a BA. He taught school and sold Real Estate before working at his favorite job, the Democratic Party. Ron was loved by his many friends. He will be especially missed by his longtime friend Mike Mallett. Encouraged to write down his stories, led Ron to author two published books, “The Passion Tree”, a collection of his short stories, and “The Lancaster Express”, an autobiographical novel. He was working on a third book before becoming incapacitated from R.P. Hydrocephalous. BetteLou Tobin is Ron’s widow who helped him with his books and cared for him in the last few years as he suffered from the undiagnosed illness. “Smart, generous, passionate, cantankerous, sweet man, I loved you”.
