Robert ‘Bob’ William Kohtz was born in BelleFourche, South Dakota to Dr. Reinhold Kohtz and his wife AnnaMarie (Mason). The family later moved to Bloomfield Nebraska, were he was raised. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 1, 1951. He married Shirley Jean Kapke in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 29, 1964 and resided near Hampton, Nebraska to farm and raise a family. Bob and Shirley had three sons during their marriage. Bob had now lived in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area since 1985.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brothers John, David and Jimmy. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley of Phoenix. Additional survivors include his sister, Karna and Phil Secker of Storrs, Connecticut and sister-in-law Darlene Kohtz of Goodyear, Arizona; sons James of Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Scott and Megan of Winterville, North Carolina, and Andrew and Christy of Phoenix, Arizona. Bob is also survived by 9 grandchildren – Justine, Anthony and Laura of Nebraska, Dana and Sydney of North Carolina and Amelia Perry, Jeffery Hecht, Dailey and Corbin of Arizona.
Bob was proud to have been a 50 year survivor of open heart surgery. During his lifetime he was a member of Lions Club, National Speakers Association and Toastmasters.
Bob died peacefully on January 18, 2014 following a short illness at the age of 76.
Memorial services are January 25th, 10AM at Resurrection Lutheran, 4930 E Greenway, Scottsdale, Arizona and conducted by pastors Greske and Hamlin. Internment of cremains will be private by family.
