Robert Griffin was born on 10/15/1921 in Amherst, Ohio. He passed away in Glendale, AZ on 8/13/2014. Bob became known for his courage and determination early on when he was determined to complete high school and there were very few resources available to him to assist him in doing so. At a young age, he went to work for the farmers in Ohio doing anything ne needed to do to reach his goal of graduating high school and reach it he did. A short time later, he enlisted in the United States Army/Air Force and one year later, World War II erupted. Being the determined and courageous person he was, very shortly, became a staff sergeant and served 3 years in the Philippines, receiving many awards, including 2 bronze stars. After his discharge, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he became employed by Southern Pacific Railroad as a simple laborer, but, once again, Bob-like, shortly, he was promoted to railroad engineer, where he worked until he retired. He had 4 children with his wife. Florence, who passed away after 46 years of marriage. He then met and married Marie Ryant, who he referred to as his loving lover and favorite sweetheart and who he was married to for 19 years. Bob's greatest passion was traveling and travel he and Marie did, seeing many wonderful places and it would be hard to find a place in the world where he has not been. Seven years ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and so began his gradual decline and, though he fought the battle courageously, which was his way, his battle came to an end on August 13, 2014. Bob was the epitome of integrity, determination and love of family. Now he is on his final journey. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Bon Voyage dear Bob. It's just another trip and we will meet again. Love you always and forever, your favorite sweetheart, your family and all who knew and loved you. Funeral Service will be held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:00 A.M.
