After his service he returned to California working at Fedmart Food Stores and living on a 36 foot sailboat moored in Long Beach, CA. He loved telling stories about these times and the fun he had. Deciding to work on his own, he developed a process of sanding steer horns to hold powder for muzzle loading rifles as a Mountain Man. He was known as the “Horn Maker” and attended rendezvous and gun shows selling the horns he made. At a gun show in Bakersfield, CA he met his wife, Lorinda. The attraction was immediate and at the end of the weekend he knew she was the one. They married in June of 1984 and their first daughter, Jessica was born in 1985 and then Sarah in 1988 – he didn’t waste any time. He wanted a family. He was a loving husband and father. He had many hobbies – fishing, camping, hiking, horn making, making wind chimes, collecting antique bottles, gems, shells, and loved turning wood to make bowls. Whatever hobby or task he adopted he quickly became the expert with his talented hands and creative mind.
A great love of his life was his daughters, granddaughter, sister and cousins – he loved his girls and spending time with them. His granddaughter, Jayde remembers brushing his hair and styling his fingernails as his daughters did.
He will be remembered as a kind and loving man who loved to talk about his 1934 Hot Rod, tell fish stories and tell you a story while he enjoyed a chocolate donut at a car show.
