Richard Victor Van Riper Jr., 72, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on November 12, 2012. He was an avid chess player, whom volunteered teaching the kids at Barry Goldwater High School, and was part of the Aletro Club. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Lucille M. Van Riper; his son Richard T. Van Riper, daughter Maria Trefethen, son in law William Trefethen, daughter in law Mardi Van Riper. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren; Dexter Richard Van Riper, William Jacob Trefethen, and Charlotte Marie Trefethen. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary 200 W. Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, Arizona. He will be greatly missed by all who love him.
