Paul Stanley Drinkwater, MD, left his beloved Becky on May 12th, 2015. Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on New Year’s Day, 1947 to Edith and Stanley Drinkwater, Paul is survived by his wife, Becky, his brother and sister-in-law, Peter & Joanne Drinkwater, nephews Adam Bevelacqua and Nathan Drinkwater, cousin Sue Beals, and numerous extended family members residing in the New England area. As a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician (physiatrist), Paul developed an outstanding reputation in the Phoenix valley. He began practicing in Phoenix in 1978. He was also a consulting physician for United Healthcare and other insurance companies since 1993. Paul was recognized for being an extremely caring physician. His “rehab” family (including patients and colleagues) appreciated the time he took with his patients to review treatment plans and advocate for their care. As a medical director for United Healthcare, he was acknowledged for his thoughtful medical decisions and unique ability to balance formal criteria with patient advocacy in mind. His physician colleagues knew him as a good friend and colleague and valued him for his fiery independence and unbridled opinions. Paul enjoyed working hard, but he had a fun side too. In addition to being a full time (and then some) physician, Paul also loved traveling with his wife of over 40 years, spending time with their dog Dusty and their antique car friends. He enjoyed working on his Model A Fords and the fun of taking them out for a spin with his wife or on rounds between hospitals and nursing homes. Paul, from all those in your circle of family, friends, and colleagues: we wish you a deeply loving and fond adieu. We will profoundly miss you! Donations to the Foundation for PM&R (foundationforpm&r.org) or the American Cancer Society in honor of Paul would be welcomed.
