I will always remember Nick for his kind words and conversation when I called, and the few occasions  where we met at Toastmasters events.

I was so fond of Nick.  He was one of the kindest souls I have known and worked with.  I remember meeting you for a lovely dinner during a trip to the office in Phoenix.  Nick was always so thoughtful, dependable, and full of warmth.  He was a bright light and will be dearly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Nick for a few years until his retirement from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  When I think of him,  it's his warm smile I remember the most.  He was a kind, gentle, and positive soul.  As a new employee, he was always generous with his time helping me when I needed it and with a smile.  He loved taking photos and became our "office" photographer.   We used to have a photo collage hung in the file room that were full of photos Nick took of the staff.  They were us dressed for Halloween, at a FWS event, and staff retreats; there were also photos from your wedding. 

I have to thank Nick for introducing me to you, Charlene. You helped me brave Toastmasters and it was fun.  Nick was part of our family and he is missed.  May he rest in peace.

I was so sad to hear of Nick's passing, as I know what a big loss that must feel for all of you.  I worked with Nick at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for many years, and know that his retirement left a gap within our family that we all have felt.  Nick was tirelessly supportive and professional, helping everyone he worked with.  Nick always put others first.  My best memories are of traveling to public meetings, which were often a bit tense, and how Nick would keep things moving forward, interject small bits of humor, and be a calming presence during those times. A tremendously humble man, but with more familiarity & day-to-day exposure - an effervescent, loving, God-sharing person.

He welcomed me to the AZ-FWS family, was solution-driven (essential in a bureaucracy), and became a reliable leader in so many ways, especially to our Native American compatriots.

My children, still in their adult lives, recognize Nick as my supervisor. Not just because he was the “most distinguishably dressed”, but because of his grandfatherly soul. They love him and are greaving too.

His introduction to us with Charlene was a welding of our FWS family. He so loved you!  Bless you Charlene in this period of transition - as Nick leaves us but beckons us to join him in the our ultimate realm! With Nick & our Lord.



Nick always was so supportive and positive to people he worked with.  His good nature and smile made all the work of those around him so successful.  He was so full of friendly good will to all.  The best to Nick!

One of my favorite memories of Nick spoke to his compassion and kindness.  A sweet, little old lady would often stop by our office selling her home-made tamales.  Nick almost always purchased some and took them home.  One day I noticed Nick ducking into the mailroom when she came into our office (back in the day when people could come and go freely).  He whispered "is she gone yet?".
After the all clear, he explained that he wasn't really crazy about tamales, but the woman reminded him so much of his grandmother that he just couldn't help buying more tamales from her every time that  she greeted him. He lamented that his freezer at home was just about full of tamales.
