Ngavoun "Ben" Tang, 92 years old, 1921-2013. Ben was born in Canton, China. He immigrated to America when he was 15 years old. Ben arrived in America, coming to Phoenix, Arizona, living and working in his Uncle Poy Ong's grocery store. World War II broke out and Ben and two of his cousins were drafted on 12/7/1942. Ben served in the U.S Army as a machine gunner in the artillery unit. He participated in 9 major campaigns during the war, receiving numerous medals. After the war, he returned to China and married Thlieu (Diane), who pre-deceased him. They were married for 60 years. He owned and operated grocery stores and restaurants in the valley and retired when he was 70 years old. Ben is survived by his children Lillian Tang-Boyle (Andrew), Leona Yee (Ames), Landy Tang (Melissa); grandchildren, Larinda Kotani (Chris), Steven Gray, Larry B. Yee, Kate Gronso (Dusty), Cindy Affolter (Sam), Craig Yee; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Mia Kotani and Mason Gray. He is also survived by numerous other relatives. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19th, from 6-8 pm at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd. in Phoenix. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 20th at 11 am, also at A.L. Moore Grimshaw. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn 2300 W. Van Buren St.
