He was born in Lansing, Michigan on November 11, 1955 to Robert and Betty (Barrett) Chapman. He was married for over 40 years to his high school sweetheart, Tamara (Reynolds). After relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, Mike and Tammy raised two sons, Maxwell (married to Samantha (Steele)) and Erik (married to Katrina (Cochran)), and have four grandchildren: Radley, Kaidence (Cochran), Jaxson, and Raelynn. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Mike is survived by his siblings Kriste (Waitman), Mark, and Jason (Eberl), and his and Tammy’s beloved dog Harlow. Mike worked for nearly 40 years as a computer programming engineer for the aerospace industry, but never allowed his career to overshadow his devotion to his family and the enjoyment of life. Mike loved living in the Southwest and going hiking in the mountains, as well as cultivating desert flora in his yard. He was also a talented artist whose paintings adorned the walls of friends and family. Coming of age in the late 60s and early 70s, Mike was a fervent fan of Tom Petty and other classic rock artists, played in a high school band, and continued strumming his guitar like a sixteen year-old even as his hair became more gray. An avid racing enthusiast, he spent many hot summer afternoons rooting for his favorite NASCAR drivers at Phoenix International Raceway. Mike and Tammy also loved to travel, most recently journeying to New England, London, and Paris. The family will host a celebration of Mike’s life at their home on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 10am to 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.samaritanspurse.org.
