Michael was born in St Louis, Missouri to Marvin and June Stewart. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism at Southern Illinois University. Michael moved to Phoenix and lived there for most of his adult life. He worked for the State of Arizona as a programmer until retiring in 2010.
Michael enjoyed fly-fishing with buddies, playing poker with buddies, camping with buddies smoking cigars and drinking scotch with buddies. He had a lifetime of buddies that kept in touch with him through many years.
He was an avid animal lover. Michael was part of a wild bird rescue network, volunteered at a no-kill animal shelter, adopted many dogs and cats, made weekly visits to an Alzheimer home with his therapy dog, and contributed annually to many Save the Animal organizations.
Michael is survived and missed by his wife of 17 years, Jan Kaneyuki:
"I so appreciate the kindnesses and friendships so many people have shown Michael during his entire life. Please share stories of Michael on this website so I can enjoy reading them for years to come. We are in the process of arranging a Celebration of Life gathering for Michael and will announce the details soon. Please leave your name and email address if you would like to be personally notified."
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.phoenixmemorialmortuary.com for the Stewart family.
