I know this message comes very belated, but I wanted to let you know how sorry both Valerie and myself are.
I had always enjoyed seeing Mike whether on the tennis courts of Shadow Mountain or at Hallmark.
He was always a bright light of my day.

Mike was absolutely singular. And always there.  In an ancillary way, I probably spent more time with him growing up than anyone besides Brian.  It was magical to hear "Big Ben!" every time I walked in the door, called on the phone, or scored a layup in basketball league.

It's rare to know someone like Mike McNett.  Someone who can make you forget about the stresses and challenges of life and remind you to enjoy every beautiful moment and experience.  Mikey was one of the smartest people I've known. He understood something about life that many of us don't or often forget...life is too short to be scared about failure or what other people might think of you.  Mike gave true meaning to living life to the fullest. He gave everyone around him permission to live out loud(literally)!  He may have died young; but I know he can rest in peace, because of how he lived.
Mikey, our community won't be the same without you, but your spirit and memory will live on in all of those whom you've touched.
Whenever I am coaching I will think of you and what you've taught me.  You will always be my assistant coach....

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike, when I was hired in the PV district 31 years ago.  I attended a meeting at his home, and we instantly became friends.  I was lucky to have him in our class, a few years later.  That friendship has remained strong through all the years.  He was the most positive and caring person I have ever met.  His smile cheered me up many times.  I watched him struggle through many medical problems , through the years, but he always had that smile and a positive outlook.  Just last week he told me he was trying to get stronger so he could come back to volunteer in our class.  I will miss our "Saturday Night Live" dialogs, and our love for the Sound of Music.  I have so many memories of Mike, (or dude). My heart has a huge void.  I will miss his weekly visits to school, his calls and his texts, and hearing (Dudette Reece).  we all have the best Angel watching over us.  Love you Mike! My condolences to Phil, Karen, Brian, Chris and Brian and his very favorite Nephew and nieces.  All of you contributed immensely, to such a great young man.

I miss Mike.  He was a friend that could always make me laugh or smile.  He had a caring and loving heart that touched so many lives.  I was lucky he was part of my life.  I wrote the following 3-4 years ago to have him in the Special Olympics spotlight.

Mike has the ability to inspire, communicate, work, play sports, volunteer and care for others.  He is a loving son, sibling and uncle. His family is the root of his positive and loving outlook on life.
Michael is always upbeat and positive.  He is the first athlete that has changed my view on every day life in many ways.  He has never in all the years I have known him said anything negative about anyone or any activity in his life.  He just generates a loving, caring, positive attitude that is contagious.  He makes me want to be a better person.  In Special Olympics, the coach is supposed to be the role model, however, I believe Michael is my role model.

I regret not making it home in time before Mike passed.  Before I left KC I had told my coworkers and friends about "my best friends brother".  After further review that is a misnomer.  He was not just a best friends brother. He was a great friend himself. I think of so many things that will never be the same but am glad we all have our memories and can share them forever amongst all those he touched.  In todays world he might have been characterized as Special Needs, but that too is inaccurate.  That is one to many words.  He was just truly "Special" and one of a kind.

When you get this, would you email me back.  I want to see if there is something wrong with my bell.  I may not answer though, because something suddenly came up or I got lost in the Grand Canyon with Jimmy the Indian Boy.  It will be fine because I put hot dogs and beans in a flash light in case we get hungry.
I can't believe I have been here for 4 months already! It is very beautiful here and we have been to a bunch of places in Europe so far.
The weather has been awesome. I may sing a different tune when it is snowing. Very green and lots of flowers here.  Much different that AZ.
There is one big difference, though.  I can't find anyone who thinks me spilling their change is funny like you do.  I have tried a bunch of times to strangers but they usually slap me and call the police. But they can't catch me because I run way over theyer, over theyer, over theyer.  Also, they have the worst popsicles and graham crackers here.  Nothing like the ones you have at home.
Melissa and the kids say hi.  She and I like to go to the malt shop and have one lovers delight with two straws.  but the waitress named Marsha always sprays whipped cream all over us.  I don't know why.
The girls just started school and like it so far.  They have been off for three months so they are excited to go and make new friends.  But they do miss home, too.
I can't believe they haven't fired you from Bashas yet for being such a nerd and geek.  Stansbury said he saw you a few weeks ago working.  He said you were being lazy and were giving terrible customer service and saw you pushing shopping carts into cars on purpose.
I am sure your being an awesome uncle.  You should teach Brandon how to spill change or collect bugs with him like Harvey Klinger.
Say hi to Clark Tyson and Doug Simpson for me.

Michael was the best email buddy ever!  He always made me feel so special, whenever, I called the house, he would say, "Aunt Alice!" like he had waited all day for my call!  He will be missed here in PA.  Jamie, Rhoda and Kathleen have such good memories of him also.

Michael was such a special, constantly happy, fun-loving person and touched so many lives, ours included.  We met him when he was toddler, trying so hard to get into everything even with those bulky, restrictive braces on his little legs.  His constancy of age and personality seems to meld the memories of his unique approach to life in our hearts, as we can always remember phrases that he uttered so often when he saw us.  For me, it was always, “What about Bob?”, a reference to the Bill Murray movie which he could almost repeat verbatim.  For Karen, it was “Oh, Karen, you're so cute!”  Our partings were always preceded by “Glad you got to see me!”—given by whichever of us remembered to say it first.   I remember too, the amazing stories about his interactions with family, friends, and his extended work, school and sports circles.  Oh, how his innocent honesty could amaze and delight us, unless we were the one being addressed with his dose of reality!  Of course reality for Michael was not always so pleasant, but he seldom complained or stayed in a bad mood, regardless of the situation or the pain he often experienced during his shortened lifetime.   Even during the worst of his final days, he tried so hard to do as he was asked by his doctors and nurses, and accept his treatment with dignity and calm.   I doubt that many of us could be nearly so brave and courageous.

We must, of course, mention the emotional support and love of his devoted family—Phil, Karen, Chris, Brooke and Brian.  Throughout his life, they loved him unconditionally, and allowed him the freedom and approval to be who he was and endow him with a sense of confidence and pride in himself that was evident to everyone who met him.  He got a healthy dose of daily ribbing from his siblings especially, as they quizzed him endlessly about specific episodes of the old TV shows that he preferred and they knew he remembered vividly.  However, their teasing did not hide their devotion to him as they took him with them to eat out, or picked him up from work, or took him to see his beloved D-Backs and Suns' games.     And of course his dad Phil was his constant companion and fellow adventurer, who loved to carry on a mutual kidding ritual with him, reminding him to “Start an IV and transport to the ER immediately” or “Get in line, buddy” or “10-4, Adam 12”.   Michael was also the glue who held the busy house together, reminding the boys of their chores, or curfews, or deadlines; getting Mom to take him shopping or adding his bananas to the grocery list; and making sure Dad had cleaned the pool or washed the car.  He was proud of his own status as the House Manager and made sure the wash was done, folded and put away each week, plus numerous other chores he performed so conscientiously.  Michael had his own self-improvement goals too—a list on the fridge that the boys loved to modify, adding things like: listen to your brothers and don't talk too loud.

Some of those who went to the cemetery the day of the funeral will remember the hawk which flew over the grave site as the song Angel Flying too Close to the Ground was being softly sung.  It dipped and soared, as if to listen to the song, and remind us that Michael was among us, and then drifted slowly off to the horizon.  Michael was one of those unforgettable people who will live on in our hearts forever as we remember his beautiful spirit, love of people, and a life focused on the positive.   We'll miss you, Mike—Glad we got to see you…

I have no idea where "Weed'em and Weep" comes from, but I always enjoyed hearing Mike say it.  Mike also wrote me very nice letters while I was in college. Dear Karen and Phil,
There are so many thoughts and emotions swirling around inside of me it is difficult to put my feelings into words.  I thought I would just let my heart spill out in writing.  First, the service for Mike was beautiful, and absolutely perfect.  I wanted to thank you for raising such an incredible son who truly touched the hearts and positively affected everyone he met.  I also wanted to thank you guys, Chris and Brian for sharing him so selflessly with the world.  I have many amazing memories of Mike, but one of my fondest is when I met your family in New Port Beach and spent the day with him.  I appreciate that day so much.
Mike was the definition of a good and loyal friend.  I remember every day in high school, every single day; Mike would wait for me by my locker in the morning with a " Hi Sis" and a big encouraging smile on his face. Rain or shine, there was Mike.  It meant so much.  If I was stressed about a test, or even during my own personal struggles there was Mike to pick me up.  He would help me collect my books then walk me to the first period class and "hand deliver" me to my teacher.  I have never known souh loyalty and devotion since and can honestly say I know I never will .  Mike was always there for everyone he cared about.  Thank you again for fostering all of those wonderful personality traits that Mike had.  You always gave him opportunities to share these special qualities and went to great lengths to place him where he could let them shine.
There is a deep void in my heart, and the area reserved for Mike can never be replaced.  There will never be another Mike. I am saddened knowing my boys will not get to know Mike as I did, or have him as a role model, but he will live on in all of our hearts and stories.  I have grown up with you and really love your family.  I am aching for you and am here for you if I can help you in anyway.  Thank you again for blessing us all with Mike.

Michael and I spoke several times at Bashas.  I know what a wonderful, fun, kind and giving young man he was.  You have so much to be proud of. He was loved by all. He added joy to every ones life. My son, Lars, introduced us to Mike many years ago in Phoenix when I lived there.  Lars talked often of Mike and the special connection he had with him.
