After high school in 1981, Michael joined the United States Army. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, SC and joined the 82nd Airborne. During his service, he received multiple medals including his proudest one—the Army Achievement Medal—while being stationed in Germany. He was awarded the Achievement Medal for going above and beyond the call of duty when he saw a car accident and jumped into help. Without a second of hesitation, he treated all three injured passengers, applying first aid and calming them until an ambulance arrived. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in January of 1992, after completing over a decade of service. After leaving the Army, Michael worked with Rural Metro Station 11 as a firefighter before his final career in safety with Harder Mechanical Contractors.
Michael was a stubborn, charming, extremely hard-working man. Throughout his life, he had a deep passion for music and adventure. From fishing in Alaska or jamming out to Hendrix in the garage. He would never turn down an opportunity to give an air guitar concert or take a four-wheel drive trip.
His life will be remembered and survived by his mother Lou Jean Harman, brother William Kevin Harman, and his four children Kelley Elizabeth Harman, Christina Anne Plumb, Alex Jack Harman, and Sara Breann Harman. He is also survived by his six grandchildren.
