Michael Dee Battle was born September 1, 1959, to Wilbert and Sarah Battle in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended East Phoenix High School where he was a standout athlete, and was named All-State in football his senior year. After graduating high school in 1977, he attended Mesa Community College where he continued to excel at football and was named to the All-American team.
Michael worked for several years as a Skycap at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. In his 50s, he decided to pursue a college degree and began attending online classes at Ashford University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Administration Degree in Health & Human Services. This degree allowed him to work as a counselor for disabled youths & young adults. Michael’s hobbies included camping, fishing, listening to music, playing spades & dominoes and he loved watching sports. He was also a member of South Phoenix Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Lee Battle and brother Jeffrey Lee.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Jodi, Jeffrey and Jasmen; his grandchildren, Jalen, Jahmar, Sariah, Ciara & Jahmire; his mother Sarah; his siblings Rhonda, Thomas (Brenda), Todd (Margaret) & Kim; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
