Passed away at his home in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, November 27, 2021, age 38.
Matt was born in Espanola, NM on March 15, 1983. He had a passion for drawing creatively and often drew things people could hardly imagine or fathom. His fascination with the supernatural made him especially curious about aliens. Matt also loved history and archeology; especially his interest with ancient history like Egypt, Mesopotamia and the Mayans. He was smart, funny and had a very kind spirit. He also had a variety of jobs in his lifetime: The Santa Fe Ski Basin, HVAC technician, auto detailer, convenience store clerk, casino maintenance, and even helped his parents manage a cleaning/maintenance business. He also knew a lot about cars and could tell you how they were made from top-to-bottom. Matt had a knack for being very detailed, whether it was in conversation or recalling a memory. This talent allowed him to be able to sing every word to numerous songs as well.
Matt was also a great conversationalist. If anyone needed to talk, he would drop everything he was doing to console them. He gave the best advice. He also loved to cook and enjoyed making many recipes of "Sam the Cooking Guy." If he wasn't watching those shows, you could find him being the sports fanatic he was, watching combat sports like UFC or boxing. Matt enjoyed every sport under the sun. He was even cast in a movie playing a soldier in Iraq.
Matt also loved our family Bassett Hound, "Wally," who was lucky enough to go on daily walks with Matt. But Matt's greatest accomplishment was his daughter, Brooke, who he loved very much.
Matt is survived by his Daughter Brooke of Espanola, NM; brothers Nick (Jasmine) of Espanola, NM and Brendan of Phoenix, AZ; parents, Diego and Sherri of Phoenix, AZ; grandparents, Gene Godin (Angela) of Turkey; Belinda Harvey (Tom) of Gilbert, AZ; Pat Godin of Littleton, CO; Antonio Ortega of La Jara, CO; niece, Aria; and many loved cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his Grandma Elena (Helen) Ortega.
Overall, Matt had a beautiful soul. He loved seeing everyone happy, even if it meant sacrificing his own happiness. He will forever be loved and remembered by his family and friends.
