Mary Madolyn (Gregg) Lohr, 91, was born in Woodruff, W.Va. February 3, 1925 to Leo and Stella Gregg. Madolyn had seven sisters and one brother, Thelma, Helen, Barbara, Norma, Shirley, Eleanor and Don. As a young girl, Madolyn went to school but when WWII came she went to work in the factory making ammunition containers for the soldiers. After the war, she worked in Wheeling, W.Va. where she met her husband Bert McClellan Lohr. Madolyn and Bert were married in 1948. In 1950, their first child was born, Deborah Leigh (Lohr) Blankenship (husband Frank) and a few years later 1957 another bundle of joy was born, Jeffery McClellan Lohr (wife Debbie). Madolyn and Bert had a strong Christian father and lived their lives serving their Lord. In 1962, Bert’s work, Grinnell Fire Sprinklers transferred him to Phoenix , AZ. Bert and Madolyn quickly became involved with Grace Brethren Church. Madolyn dedicated her life to helping others. Madolyn was on the WMC (Women’s Missionary Council). A Deaconess in the church, she helped care for the babies in the nursery and taught VBSD (Vacation Bible School). Madolyn was a stay at home mom for which my brother and I will forever be grateful, for there was always a smile to greet us at the door, delicious cooked meals, prayer time before bed and an abundance of love. Madolyn and Bert have 5 grandsons: Ty Blankenship, Garrett McClellan Lohr, Aaron Jesse Lohr, Kyl Blankenship, Bryson Gabriel Lohr, and a great grandson Ford Barrett Blankenship (son of Ty and Kari Blankenship). One of Madolyn’s greatest joys was the birth of her grandsons. Madolyn helped the family by always being there for babysitting, camping trips, to the park playground and of course, those mini pizza’s the boys still love to this day. Our family would like to thank Northwest Valley Baptist Church, Hospice and the Caregivers at Amethyst for the support and love you have shown our beloved Mother. Services will be held at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Road, Phoenix, on Tuesday, May 31 with viewing from 5 to 7:00 P.M. and funeral service at 7:00 P.M. and Graveside Burial will be on June 1 at 10:00 A.M.
