Mary Catherine Kalna, 86, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 27th, after suffering a long illness. Mary is survived by her husband, Robert; children, daughter Laurie, and son Scott; grandchildren Christopher and his wife, Lauren, Nicholas, and Robert; great-grandchildren Nathan, Austin, Brody and Autumn.
Mary began life in Cleveland, Ohio where she met her husband Bob. Their journey together began in Cleveland prior to relocating to Arizona in 1975. Mary and Bob shared a long-lasting love, having just celebrated their 65th anniversary on Valentine’s Day. Mary took great pride in being a wife and mother. But, perhaps her greatest joys came enjoying her grandsons and their accomplishments, as they have grown into successful men. The most precious times by far, although far too few, came from spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Mary was a wonderful cook, talented seamstress and always “crafty”, in a variety of ways. Even in a nursing home where she resided Mary participated in crafts and painting workshops, along with her favorite- BINGO, Scrabble, Bible Studies and Sunday Worship services.
Mary and Bob were very active members of their retirement community before her illness. They have many friends and loved participating in a variety of activities, even traveling from time to time with friends from the community.
In her working life Mary worked in retail, and in both private and state businesses. Prior to retirement in 1993, Mary worked for ADOT in the Licensing Division.
