Mary Jane Mann, of Sun City, Arizona passed away on October 9, 2024 at the age of 80 years. Mary Jane was born on July 30, 1944 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Mary Louise (Van Guilder) Smith. As a child, she moved to Arizona. She graduated high school from St Joseph’s Academy in Prescott and attended one year at University of Arizona. She spent most of her career working with the Telephone Company where she retired as a Manager in the Repair Service Department. She went on to clerk and work in the accounting department for Target where she spent enough years for a 2nd retirement.
As a child Mary Jane fell in love with reading and always had a book in progress sitting next to her. She read every Danielle Steel novel. She also enjoyed bowling and coaching young bowlers. She and her son bowled in a family-doubles league together and one year won state and went to Nationals. Mary Jane loved Vegas (vacationing there often) and playing Bingo (including tournaments in Vegas). In her final years she enjoyed crocheting for the Linus Project.
She was preceded in death by her father James Charles Smith; her sister Jean Elizabeth Kammrath; her uncles Eddie, Victor and Phill Van Guilder; and her mother Mary Louise Smith. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Mary Lou Simpson; her son Darryl DeWayne Robinson; her grandson James Thornton Simpson; her granddaughter Mary Catherine Simpson; and her great grandchildren Michael Jacob Simpson, Christopher Johnathan Miller, Lila Lucille Simpson, Parker Luis Simpson, Emily Jane Simpson, and Mary Elizabeth Chagnon-Simpson.
The Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 10:00am at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027.
