Barbara passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 11, 2017 due to complications from pneumonia. Born on January 3, 1947 in Youngstown, Ohio, Barbara knew that her future was nursing. To begin her 50 years in nursing, she joined the surgical team at the Cleveland Clinic. She moved to Arizona in 1970 and was a member of the original Open Heart Team at Good Samaritan Hospital. Her career as an operating room nurse, a private scrub nurse, and Director of the Operating Room at Boswell Hospital brought her great joy. She had a strong work ethic and maintained high standards for care in the nursing field. She was an avid theatre goer, art enthusiast and a devoted Diamondbacks fan. Barbara was very involved with the Women’s Club at St. Louis the King Catholic Church for many years. Her strong faith was an integral part of her life, believing in the power and love of our Lord. We know she was welcomed into Heaven and is organizing a dance party for everyone now. Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind saddened family and friends who will miss her wit, her unique gifts, and her kind thoughtfulness. Barbara is survived by her siblings: Martha McLaughlin (Bob); Bill Higgins (Bonnie); Jim Higgins (Cindy); Janet Adams (Jim Anderson); Tom Higgins (Becky); 10 nephews and nieces; 6 great nephews and nieces; and many beloved cousins. Visitation services will be Tuesday, October 17th from 6-8pm at The Shadow Mountain Mortuary; 2350 E. Greenway Road, 85022. Funeral services will be at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; 3801 E. Greenway Road, 85032. Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery to follow immediately after; 9925 W. Thomas Road, 85392.
