December 19th, 2020 at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. Mary Ann was born in Vandalia, IL on
November 24, 1946 as the fifth of eleven children to Mary and Harry Cooley, and was adopted by
Ernest and Edith Shadow at age five. Mary Ann graduated from Neoga High School in Neoga, IL in
1964. After graduating, Mary Ann devoted her life to God as a Missionary in California and Arizona.
She met the love of her life, George Michael Schoen, in 1983 and they were married on September 29,
1983 in Mesa, AZ.
As George and Mary Ann began their lives together, Mary Ann dedicated herself to raising their
two children, Bradley and Amber, as George continued his career with the State of Arizona. In her free
time, she enjoyed a passion for arts and crafts such as coloring, sewing, and scrapbooking. In her later
years, Mary Ann enjoyed spoiling her three grandchildren at every opportunity.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, George Michael Schoen, in 2019,
her son George Bradley Schoen earlier this year in 2020, parents Ernest and Edith Shadow, and siblings
Sharon Farlow, Ruthanne Ivy, Charles Freeman, and Dewayne Sidener. She is survived by her daughter
Amber Schoen (Bobby), her grandchildren Caelen Sims, Rowyn Sims, and Darby Sims, and siblings
Ethel (John) Corrie, Ralph (Janet) Landrus, Nellie Logan, Shirley Beckmier, James (Julia) Weaver,
Lillie Stevens, and many other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 28, at 2:30pm at Phoenix Memorial
Park and Mortuary in north Phoenix.
