OMG ! Just signed up on Facebook. One of the first NAVY friends I look up is Mark Serna. This is devastating. So sorry to the Serna family. Everybody is on a last name basis in the military. When your on a first name basis as Mark and I were it speaks volume. He is a great man. I called the funeral home to get in touch with his mom unfortunately her number is disconnected. We meet so many people in our lives and really meet only a handful of people who truly touch our heart and bless our soul.  Mark was one of those people.  It was impossible to walk away from a conversation with Mark without it somehow changing you - and always for the better. 
I haven't had the pleasure of talking with Mark in awhile but I am still blessed by the memory of his smile, laugh, his kind heart and the light that burned so bright inside him and twinkled in his eyes. I have been truly blessed to have been able to call him my friend. 
To Mark's family - My thoughts and prayers are with you. While I know nothing can be said to ease the pain, I hope that there is some comfort in knowing what an incredible man and how many lives he has truly and deeply touched. 
Mark, you are deeply loved and missed just as much. Rest easy my friend.

We have known Mark for along time.  We lived in Cottonwood and went to school together.  We are sorry about the loss and our thoughts are with the family and friends.

Mark was a very special person and my heart was so heavy to hear of his passing. He touched so many lives and it was evident at the service yesterday, which by the way was absolutely beautiful. I had the honor of working with Mark in Cottonwood and spent many many hours studying with him during Paramedic Class. He was an amazing person and I am so sorry for your loss. I remember a dedicated, hard-working, professional State Trooper in Casa Grande.  Mark took the same work ethic to DPS Air Rescue where he saved numerous lives as a Paramedic.  I remember the camaraderie we shared in the Honor Guard.  I remember Mark's smile, sense of humor, and positive attitude and spirit.  I will always remember 5904.  I extend my deepest sympathy to the Serna family.  My heart goes out to you.  Be it known that Mark served with honor.

I had the privilage of getting to country dance with Mark, he was a great dancer and also the privilage of knowing him as a friend. My heart goes out to his children especially Megan. Mark rest in peace knowing you will be missed by many.

I went through the paramedic program with Mark back in 99'. I remember all those classes with Mark, the studying and the comraderie. Drinking beers together at Pullano's and 6 of us heading down to Rocky Point to celebrate graduation. What a great guy. I'm with the Peoria FD Honor guard and would often see Mark at funerals paying his respect for a fallen officer or firefighter. He was always a caring, thoughtful, compassionate guy who cared about his co-workers, his patients and his friends. My heart and prayers go out to his family at this time of loss and grief.I submit that perhaps the greater loss (not grief but loss) belongs to all those people out there who never got to know him. Rest in peace Mark.

I assisted with precepting Mark while he was a paramedic training @ JC Lincoln Hosp in Phx. Mark was always passionate about his career and compassionate with his patients. I will always remember his smile and comradery when coming to our facility. His profession is stressful and at times unrewarding. We should all be thankful for people like him to protect and respond to our emergencies. It came as a shock to me that I read about his death, my prayers go out to his family. Vaya con Dios

I worked with Mark out of Station 41 many times.  I'll never forget Thanksgiving; he worked on his model of the Ranger while a few of us got out our guitars and jammed.  Mark just grinned and tapped his foot.  It's amazing how those of us in EMS never know what to say when something like this happens...it's rough when it's one of our own.  I wish we could say something to make this easier, but all we can say is that you're all in our prayers.
