Marie Julia Sweeten

She is survived by her 3 children; Edward Sweeten Jr. and his wife Sue, Gary Sweeten, Sharon Henson and her husband Chuck, 7 grandchildren; Shane, Scott, Melanie, Paul, Chuck Jr., Adam, Amber and their spouses; Jody, Lisa, Nicholas, Alisha, Brisa, Maria and Bryce, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.

Marie was born in Camden, New Jersey on June 5, 1923, the youngest of 5 to Albert and Rose Chonto. She was preceded in death by her 4 siblings, Albert, Margaret, Irene and Helen.

She married Edward L. Sweeten Sr. on May 7, 1949. Edward passed away in 2006. They had been very happily married for 57 years.

Marie lived her life to please and serve the Lord. Church was very important to her, and she was very involved in it as she raised us, her 3 children. She was known as a prayer warrior, spending much time everyday praying for family, friends & the world. She has been a Godly example to all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showing us how to love and serve unselfishly, and how to take our walk with Christ seriously.

We rejoice that she is now with Jesus, happy, healthy, and singing praises to God. She’s been ready and waiting for this time.

We plan to have a Celebration of her Life Memorial Service and hope that many family and friends will attend, but it will have to be held at a later date. We will let that be known, when we know the specifics.

A private graveside service will be held for family members.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking that those who want to give, please make a donation to Samaritan’s Purse on behalf of Marie. Marie donated to and prayed for Samaritan’s Purse’s ministries for many years, and felt their work for the Lord was important to the world. She also has a grandson, Nicholas, who is part of Samaritan’s Purse.
