Maria M. Gutierrez, known affectionately as Maruca, Nana, and Skinny Nana, peacefully passed away at 12:30pm on January 27, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 95. She was surrounded by her loving family at home.
Maria was born on December 24, 1928, in Cd. Camargo Chihuahua, Mexico. She graduated from the University of Mexico City with a degree in administration. A devoted homemaker, Maria found joy in both indoor and outdoor activities. Renowned for her culinary skills, she delighted in making tamales, empanadas, and panecitos for her family and friends. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always ready to share her winnings from bingo and casinos, which she enjoyed visiting with her friends. Maria had her playful side, finding entertainment in playing Pac-Man, Tetris video games, lottery scratch-tickets and completing her 10,000-piece puzzles. Her zest for life was evident in her love for socializing, particularly during outings with friends and family. Maria was married to her beloved husband, Antonio D. Gutierrez, for 40 years, and together they raised four children. She is survived by her children Jose, Maria, and Rosa, and her youngest sister Marta Vijescas. Maria is also survived by her seven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Her services will be held at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary and Memorial Gardens, located at 4310 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix, Arizona 85042, on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 12 PM.
